Useful Links

Below are some links to external sites that you may find useful if you are considering a career in Librarianship or Information Management.

Since we welcome suggestions, this page is a work in progress and will be updated as and when we stumble across something helpful.

Career Profiles:

Academic Librarian

Archivist

Information Officer

Public Librarian

Records Manager

There are a host of related job profiles on the Prospects site. Unconventional career paths are pretty common, and volunteering may also be important. It’s not unusual here at Leeds for staff to gain experience by secondment to another post, or combining two part-time posts across teams.

CILIP also has a dedicated Jobs and Careers page with helpful links.

Professional and Supporting Bodies:

Chartered Institute of Library and Information Professionals (CILIP)

Special Libraries Association (SLA)

British and Irish Association of Law Librarians (BIALL)

Society of College, National and University Librarians (SCONUL)

Joint Information Systems Committee (JISC)

Traineeships and Library School:

Again, CILIP have helpful pages advertising upcoming Graduate Traineeships (Note: Not all traineeships are listed here), and listing University courses currently accredited by CILIP. However, the courses page should only be used as a starting point as this information can change at short notice. It is advisable to visit individual University websites for more detail.

Trainee Blogs and New Professional Sites:

There is a vast number of blogs and webpages dedicated to Librarianship; here are some links to the most useful pages and some blogs of other current Graduate Trainees.

LISWiki

Cambridge Trainee Librarians’ Online Group

Library and Information Sector New Professionals Network (LISNPN)
